Goals of the Metapkg Alliance
In order to better provide freely-available software to users of Mac OS X & Darwin, we Fink, Gentoo, & DarwinPorts commit ourselves to work together according to the following principles:
- Cooperation: To cooperate in our efforts to provide Mac OS X/Darwin users with collections of freely-distributable software.
- Results: By cooperating, increase quality, reduce duplication of effort, and thus deliver better results more quickly to the Mac OS X/Darwin user community.
- Infrastructure: Set up shared infrastructure hosted at metapkg.org in order to facilitate this cooperation and serve as a neutral coordination point for our three projects.
- Focus. Focus primarily on improving the development of ports, rather than targeting end users.
- Accountability: Ensure that our porting efforts take into account the needs and suggestions of the Mac OS X/Darwin user community.
- Non-advocacy: Our common goal is simply to provide software for people who choose to use Mac OS X & Darwin, not to promote or advocate any particular operating system.
- Adaptability: These collective goals may be amended, expanded or changed over time provided that the respective changes are agreed upon by all members of this alliance.
